This seems to be a bad weekend for small aircraft drivers. I’m going to do things backwards this morning. I first is the second accident:

WHITEWATER, Kan. (AP) – One person has died after a small aircraft crashed in southern Kansas.
Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet told KAKE-TV (http://j.mp/29CI4t3 ) that a 61-year-old man who lived in the area was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash Friday evening. He says the aircraft crashed in a rural area outside the town of Whitewater.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol are investigating.
The second was the first accident:
BEAUMONT, Kan. (KWCH) The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating after a plane flipped over in Butler County near Beaumont.
A Butler County dispatcher said the plane hit a crosswind, which flipped the aircraft over.
Nobody was injured.
We expect more information as the Kansas Highway Patrol conducts its investigation. We will bring you any updates as soon as we get them.
All of which is not what I was writing about when the news told me about another police ambush. While responding to a 911 call. Now that is bad.
What I was writing about before other stuff began, was the group of American Veterans from all over the U.S. gathering in the tornado town, the county seat. They have stayed on the job cleaning up trees and streets for over a week now. They are, they say, giving back to America what America has given them.
They paid for their own meals, sleep on cots in the local gym, and are leaving today for their homes from Maine to Ca.
Thanks guys, volunteers all. A job well done.
