More rain last night. That is a good thing. The heat was broken anyway, and the cool feels good. .Cool is, of course, relative.
The general elections are coming. Our local political scene is shifting. The present sheriff is not running again, he’s after a State Police job. Five deputies are gearing up to make a run on the office.
One of the deputies, a Captain in rank, has moved into the Under-Sheriff’s job. Which is somewhat akin to Vice-President. It is un-clear, as a while back I asked the Captain if he wanted to be sheriff and he said no.
The recent rash of solutions to crimes in a couple of areas have been subscribed to two of the deputies considering running.
Those are to their credit, as they should be, but I’m a skeptic. Even so the solutions and charges have come in over the past year, it is still, mmmm, convenient. Generally speaking I’d say if the dudes had that information and waited to act until politically considered, then hell will freeze before a citizen gets action on mundane things as the political winds whistle.
There are a couple running that probably don’t have the money nor the influence of family in the area; and one that hasn’t the formal education one might hope to see. He does have some experience as law enforcement and some time in the community.
Well, it’s time to start talking to people about it. That Sheriff’s job is crucial in a limited community like our county.
