The Derby is well over. I managed.
An article, tw0 days old:
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla– A man who was a finalist on “American Idol” and grew up in Wichita has been killed in a traffic accident. The crash happened early Friday in Oklahoma City.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Rickey Smith Jr., 36, was killed when a pickup truck going the wrong way on I-240 hit his car. Smith was living in Oklahoma City at the time of his death.
Smith was featured on the second season of “American Idol”. He told People magazine he was raised as a Seventh day Adventist in Wichita. Smith finished 8th in the competition, which was won by Ruben Studdard.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said the truck driver was treated for his injuries and then arrested.
That is a not good thing. There’s been a rash of these contestants dying lately. Maybe this will be the last for a while.
They’ve been promising bad weather for the past three days in my area. Today is gloomy, damp and cold (for the time of year). There is very little breeze of any sort. I’m always suspicious of a day in Kansas without winds of some sort. Hope it decides to slide on by with only a casual look, not stick about and cause real trouble.
Strange night time activity over at the near neighbors. I believe the truck belongs to the brother that remains with a drivers license. The mechanical gifted one. I spoke with him a while back and he indicated his girl friend had left him and she had taken his prized bow with her.
He had a re-curved bow he was well satisfied with. He’d spend sometime each week practicing with it. I was never certain why he’d only shoot it at ten yards, rather then the Olympic distances. God knows we have enough hay bails in the area for back stops. But I never asked him that.
He talked about that bow like it was an expensive thing. I don’t know, not being in the business of them.
