Gloomy. Overcast with thunder grumbling in the distance. We had sprinkles last evening that settled the dust, not much else. So far, no rain. The air is still smoky. The taste on the tongue isn’t sugar, for sure.
The local TV folks report that the range fire setters, controlled burners, will ot be prosecuted. They are not generally hauled into court. The ranchers are experienced at this and, for the most part, operate singly. They have large tanks of water attached to their tractors, with PTO regulators for spraying. They do good work burning strips of their lands, only occasionally losing control in gusty winds and, believe it or not, a car going by can spread the fires faster than a rancher may respond.
Speaking of chronic problems:
WICHITA, Kan. –School busses transporting kids to and from Wichita schools are facing more problems. Often running late, and sometimes not picking up children altogether. Wichita
Out here in the country driving a school bus is one of those jobs people seek.I’ve talked to several bus barn bosses and they are having trouble finding people that can drive buses it is the taking of the government test, the eye tests and the trial driving tests that folks donot like to bother with.
The prospective drivers don’t like to pre-flight their vehicles and do routine test, like tires, fluids and simple brake tests.
Maybe the schools need crew chiefs whose sole job is to do minor maintenance and be responsible for X number of busses or a bus. Rather like the services do pilots and aircraft.
Seems a waste, but people are people.
