Windy, dry. Temps climbing, setting records.

Burning bans are posted in several counties, trains have set spark fires along the tracks. Fortunately the fires have been close to response units and stomped out before too long.

It appears to be another hot and dry year.

Speaking of hot and dry; this from fifty years ago:

Celebrating Allen Ginsberg 50 years after ‘Wichita Vortex Sutra’ (+video)

Wichita Eagle

Even now, 50 Februarys after he wrote the “Wichita Vortex Sutra,” Allen Ginsberg’s words sting and shock. The hip, flower-powered, counterculture writer was drawn to Wichita in the winter of 1966, fascinated by the fact that so many of his friends had

I seem, contrary to the oft expressed opinion “If you remember the sixties you weren’t there.”, to remember that time period. It weren’t pretty.

The Eaton Hotel faced, not long ago, total extinction. It was a seedy place. Of course,  I didn’t see Wichita until the seventies, so cannot speak for former times.

Renovation of the Historic Eaton Hotel in Downtown Wichita for those with a momentary interest. The whole of the then center of the town has been changed. About twenty years back most of the central area was condemned and the businesses moved to the Northwest of town.

Quit a lot of history in that area. This is the season for the Riverfest, or will be soon. The planning is well underway and press releases are appearing.

About tenwhiskey

User tenwhiskey is also the author of this blog. He currently lives in small town Kansas in a semi-retired condition. His kids are married and gone (thank you). An empty nester. Divorced. Very happy with life as it is. Ten Mile maintains a personal blog here, writing of events as they appear to him; commentary, and opinions abound. He deviates into fiction as the mood strikes and creates flash fiction stories and short stories. He will not warn the reader when he drifts from fact to fiction. He feels adults are, generally, smart enough to figure out which is which. He does, however, attempt to make his fiction sound as true to life as possible. You have been warned. He, as time permits, writes and occasionally sells writing. More often than not he gives it away to various non-paying publishers of Ether Magazines, forums or for entertainment on a wall for in need of a hand friends. He likes candy, pies and a certain amount of strife. In the matter of strife - in his yourth on the farm, he became embroiled in a slinging fight. The fight involved lath as a launcher, fresh cow patties as ammo and it was a six way free for all. A little mud only adds (Umm?) a certain taste to life.
