Here we are, the last day. Well, of the year.
I thought, as I read a number of blogs, many of which are Navy personnel, or ex-personnel, and a few Marines thrown in that never seem to be ex-marines, that I’d send them an Air Force joke – of a sort.
Actually, the joke isn’t. It is a quote from a . . . person:
“Doc survived being parked as a target in the bombing range in the desert. The Air Force will tell you that’s because it was a target for the Navy.”
– Jeff Turner, speaking at the downtown Rotary club about “Doc, ” a B-29 Superfortress bomber that’s undergoing restoration
The Air Museum is located on McConnell AFB, Wichita Ks. It’s main building is the original tower of the Wichita Airport. Boeing Aircraft basically had the West side of the Airport, back in the day. WACO had a building/hangar just North of the old tower, way back.
It was all turned into a museum almost twenty years ago and has been building strength slowly over the years.
McConnell is, itself, a mecca of sorts for all things NAFI. From BX to camper rentals to qualified persons. A good place for a mil family to travel light, get equipment for camping and touring Kansas.
We have good fishing, lots of touristy places and for the winter buff, good hunting in almost any part of the state.
That’s an un-paid plug for the State, by the way.
