Carlson Funeral Homes starts harvesting DNA from the dead

Butler County Times Gazette

DNA Memorial announced Carlson Funeral homes of El Dorado is a licensed provider of DNA Memorial services and products to the families they serve.

Why, one might ask, does a blogger post something like the above?

And if you asked, I’m happy you did.

Think years and decades of unsolved cases around the country. Just sitting there with DNA traces, maybe the perp, maybe not. The data bank shows the dead has a match. The dead has lead a life, accrued children, and suddenly his legacy is questioned – maybe innocent, maybe not.

No peace for the departed there. His estate is now subject to the government. What of the family.

Or a lawyer, a hot shot. Wants absolute proof of parentage, even though the will is clear, and the beneficiary, whomever he or she might be, find themselves a bastard. The lawyer, self satisfied, continues on and the victim cowers in the corner wondering, after years of family service, who they are.

Or . . . , you get the picture though, don’t you?

And in years to come as the data base inches toward one hundred percent, the mystery of Billy the Kids parents won’t even be a mystery, not even a teeny tiny bit.

The opportunities for class assignment is rampant in the thought of a DNA data base. College entry? How’re your gene’s? You well connected from the correct family . . . ?

About tenwhiskey

User tenwhiskey is also the author of this blog. He currently lives in small town Kansas in a semi-retired condition. His kids are married and gone (thank you). An empty nester. Divorced. Very happy with life as it is. Ten Mile maintains a personal blog here, writing of events as they appear to him; commentary, and opinions abound. He deviates into fiction as the mood strikes and creates flash fiction stories and short stories. He will not warn the reader when he drifts from fact to fiction. He feels adults are, generally, smart enough to figure out which is which. He does, however, attempt to make his fiction sound as true to life as possible. You have been warned. He, as time permits, writes and occasionally sells writing. More often than not he gives it away to various non-paying publishers of Ether Magazines, forums or for entertainment on a wall for in need of a hand friends. He likes candy, pies and a certain amount of strife. In the matter of strife - in his yourth on the farm, he became embroiled in a slinging fight. The fight involved lath as a launcher, fresh cow patties as ammo and it was a six way free for all. A little mud only adds (Umm?) a certain taste to life.
