I know I said something within these pages about Hutchinson Salt mines. I’ve not been to the following, however. Never seen the place.
But feel free to go when you visit.
A restroom built into the underground walls at Strataca, the underground salt museum in Hutchinson, just might be the most wonderful place to relieve yourself in the entire country.
I decline to ask whether you went.
While I’m on the touristy stuff: The Hutchinson Space Museum is a wonderful place, as are the Wichita Museum and the Aviation Museum on the West side of McConnell AFB, Wichita.
Now those I’ve seen.
Lake Afton, just outside Wichita, is debating the future of its observatory. That place I’ve never been. The park area hosts auto races from time to time.
Winfield, south and east of Wichita, will be hosting this month a music fest. It is typically one of the largest in the area. A three day afair.
As a matter of fact several towns and villages will be having Fall Fest of one type or the other. Good time for tourists around here.
Harvest is generally finished – except for beans, and I’ve seen those harvested in light snow, for pity’s sake. With their long stems they are usually above any moisture and a farmer can wait a while to harvest them if he must.
My grass is not responding readily to the recent rains. I believe that it is near time the Renter integrates them into his permanent herd. He plans to breed them back into his bunch and is looking for spring calves. The young calves I have here have begun to bull, so I suppose they’re ready to breed or near enough to introduce to the herd.
I’m a bit selfish wanting the cows off the place. I want to clean out the creek and stretch some barbed wire before it gets too cold. Hate doing that stuff in the cold and hate even more having to do it in the rain and cold of early spring getting ready for the next bunch. I always feel rushed under those conditions.
