There are some things that, on the surface just do not make make sense:

Census: More people moving out of Kansas than moving in

More people have been leaving Kansas than moving here over the last four years, new Census figures show.

The state experienced a net loss of 10,197 people because of outward migration from 2010 through July 1, 2013, according to numbers released Thursday by the Census Bureau.

That number offsets a net gain of 9,830 people who migrated into the state from 2007 to 2009, Census numbers show.

We have a pretty good jobs event and all other items round about indicate recreation, education and favorable tax situation is here and in place. The average age of the farmer is quite high however, at about 62. That means the farms are getting sold off, usually to larger farmers so the labor base is shrinking, moving away. The decline in the aircraft industry is basically the same as the farmer problem.

Wichita is seeking money to ‘study’  ways and means of growing the  economy. I noticed that the town is also considering making Old Town an amusement park area.

That last might take some doing.

About tenwhiskey

User tenwhiskey is also the author of this blog. He currently lives in small town Kansas in a semi-retired condition. His kids are married and gone (thank you). An empty nester. Divorced. Very happy with life as it is. Ten Mile maintains a personal blog here, writing of events as they appear to him; commentary, and opinions abound. He deviates into fiction as the mood strikes and creates flash fiction stories and short stories. He will not warn the reader when he drifts from fact to fiction. He feels adults are, generally, smart enough to figure out which is which. He does, however, attempt to make his fiction sound as true to life as possible. You have been warned. He, as time permits, writes and occasionally sells writing. More often than not he gives it away to various non-paying publishers of Ether Magazines, forums or for entertainment on a wall for in need of a hand friends. He likes candy, pies and a certain amount of strife. In the matter of strife - in his yourth on the farm, he became embroiled in a slinging fight. The fight involved lath as a launcher, fresh cow patties as ammo and it was a six way free for all. A little mud only adds (Umm?) a certain taste to life.
