Ch 12 is a local channel in Wichita Ks. It covers south central.
They are pretty good at compiling local news, and rendering facts. Which one can appreciate muchly.
The following article is about a current scam making the rounds of us under appreciated schooling fish:
FactFinder 12 first told you about a jury duty scam in January. This past weekend, Wichita police received four complaints about the scam.
Here’s how it works: A person calls claiming to be a sheriff’s warrant deputy. He says there’s a warrant for your arrest for failing to show up for jury duty.
You’re told to either send money right away, or be hauled off to jail.
FactFinder 12 Investigators spoke with a woman Monday who fell victim to the scam. She was too embarrassed to speak on camera. She says the man called himself “Sergeant Jones” and was “very convincing.”
After getting off the phone, she ran to the nearest Walgreens and put $475.50 dollars on a Green Dot Money Pak card, as ordered. She then called the man back and gave him the card number. Police say once that happens the money is gone and almost impossible to trace.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s office does not collect fines for failing for show for jury duty. And the county would certainly never use Green Dot cards as currency.
In honesty I can say, although I’ve been getting many calls of an official sort, I haven’t received this one yet.
Just a lot of them from the eye doctor.
Ran last night and this morning. Thunder and lightening last night and this morning. The ground is/was so dry the rain is welcome and hasn’t really pooled or started run off. The intensity has bee high. Power lines down and trees split by the lightening.
