High winds for the past three days finally gave way to fair skies, no wind to speak of and milder temperatures.

The high winds allowed a couple of range fires getting away and after the fire department suppressed the issue, they sprang up again, in one case and took out a barn.

That season is just about behind us.

They’ve been working on a stretch of Hwy US 99 near home place. The company doing the overlay work may only block off one lane for a distance of 3.7 miles at a time. The distance restriction is, of course, for the convenience of the travelling public.

The stretch they’ve contracted for is fourteen miles of road, the distance requiring Follow Me cars, and intersection guards and Flag Men. One of the guards/flagmen was a woman. At her rotation into the Follow Me car she became distracted and drove off the road into the barr ditch. She followed the barr ditch until she struck a culvert and rolled the Follow Me truck.

None of the travelling public followed her into the ditch.

The accident was investigated by the police, the lady examined by the hospital. When she was released by the hospital she was arrested and turned over to the local Sheriff for an outstanding warrant from another Ks county.

Which proves which moral I’m not sure.

About tenwhiskey

User tenwhiskey is also the author of this blog. He currently lives in small town Kansas in a semi-retired condition. His kids are married and gone (thank you). An empty nester. Divorced. Very happy with life as it is. Ten Mile maintains a personal blog here, writing of events as they appear to him; commentary, and opinions abound. He deviates into fiction as the mood strikes and creates flash fiction stories and short stories. He will not warn the reader when he drifts from fact to fiction. He feels adults are, generally, smart enough to figure out which is which. He does, however, attempt to make his fiction sound as true to life as possible. You have been warned. He, as time permits, writes and occasionally sells writing. More often than not he gives it away to various non-paying publishers of Ether Magazines, forums or for entertainment on a wall for in need of a hand friends. He likes candy, pies and a certain amount of strife. In the matter of strife - in his yourth on the farm, he became embroiled in a slinging fight. The fight involved lath as a launcher, fresh cow patties as ammo and it was a six way free for all. A little mud only adds (Umm?) a certain taste to life.
