Wichita State looked more like a No. 1 seed than anyone else

The Shockers were 34-0 headed into this tournament, but that wasn’t enough to win over the nation. A non-power conference and a brutal crop of other top seeds in their region made them a trendy pick to lose early.

But in a tourney where all three of the other No. 1 seeds looked sluggish, Wichita State absolutely owned Cal Poly from start to finish in a dominating defensive effort for a 64-37 win.

That’s the first one. Second coming up.-

I did say, in an ill considered e-mail to an avid basketball freak, that WSU would go to the third or fourth game.

Ill considered because I hadn’t the foggiest as to who was playing whom (or the other way around). I, also, hadn’t an idea what WSU’s yearly record might have been at the time of the email.

Since, however, casual browsing told me WSU’s detractors were . in full force, my “hometown pride” was challenged. So, without thought, knee jerk reaction, I responded.

I’m stuck now, aren’’t I?  And, no. I didn’t watch the game. I don’t care for basketball. Which is hard to explain, really. I think basketball is boring, and baseball is generally worth watching – although I’d much rather have NASCAR and Football on.

Yes. I know, baseball more interesting than basketball. Still, I’d rather read a book than go to a boxing match or view MMA.

Sad me.

About tenwhiskey

User tenwhiskey is also the author of this blog. He currently lives in small town Kansas in a semi-retired condition. His kids are married and gone (thank you). An empty nester. Divorced. Very happy with life as it is. Ten Mile maintains a personal blog here, writing of events as they appear to him; commentary, and opinions abound. He deviates into fiction as the mood strikes and creates flash fiction stories and short stories. He will not warn the reader when he drifts from fact to fiction. He feels adults are, generally, smart enough to figure out which is which. He does, however, attempt to make his fiction sound as true to life as possible. You have been warned. He, as time permits, writes and occasionally sells writing. More often than not he gives it away to various non-paying publishers of Ether Magazines, forums or for entertainment on a wall for in need of a hand friends. He likes candy, pies and a certain amount of strife. In the matter of strife - in his yourth on the farm, he became embroiled in a slinging fight. The fight involved lath as a launcher, fresh cow patties as ammo and it was a six way free for all. A little mud only adds (Umm?) a certain taste to life.
