It is with some sadness I observe the demise of another year. It isn’t the year was that good, nor was it that bad. It is simply that another year has gone and I may only claim I had possession of it for its duration and shake my head and admit; Yes, I rather enjoyed the year.

Knowing that it is one less year that I have, a sad thing to celebrate such a loss even in the  manner of an Irish wake – to celebrate the life events, not the death. I did enjoy the year.  As this is its last day it seems to be celebrating in its own fashion with a mild summer thunder storm and torrential rains. Its final gift, unless between the second hour of its last day and its final hour this evening it can find another present to offer. We need the moisture.

Not being of the Tree Hugger variety of Greenie; burning of half built homes some how doesn’t make a deal of sense, the trees being already cut and to senselessly burn them to no effect is . . Well, stupid. Almost as stupid as the “Save the Whale” greenies spending thousands in fossil fuels to attack shipping, who then cry when their custom toy vessels are ruined in collisions they themselves have perpetuated. Their crime (and it is a crime, I believe, called piracy, to attack a vessel on the high seas) is justified in their minds if crime is pointed out, that is the lesser of two crimes then, we’re saving the whales.

I’m still pleased to see the non-caged wild life interacting with human kind. They don’t trust us completely, and that is well for them, but the greenie effort has increased their numbers in many cases and that is pleasing. It tickles the very cockles of my cold, cold heart, that even the greenies concede the need to cull the herds in their protected-ness. The herds doing as urged, procreate.

Maybe soon the greenies will figure out that herd animals are prey animals and need predators to be healthy. Most folks seem inordinately pleased with rabbits and hawks as if one had little or nothing to do with the other.

Climate change is still silly toward the warming side; I see the tiny weather relay stations in preposterous places. Like in the middle of parking lots and their heat traps; On tops of buildings with their heat sinks and surmise the stupidity of man is rampant in the scientific community as it is in the clear cut, build a trailer park, re-plant totally inappropriate flora for ‘landscaping.’

Maybe this coming year.

The Nations of the World are still bent on keeping one another off their own grasses; the Catholic Church seems, with its current Pope, to be fostering a little pedophilia is okay and to be expected, Anti-Judaism in the manner of 1930’s isn’t all bad, and meddling in stuff it hasn’t a business in is “God’s Work.”

I’m not sure if the Catholic Church does it deliberately or not in response, but their swing is concurrent with the rise of the 2012’ers. The native blogs I monitor are full of the natural cycle pointing to the end times. I cannot say non-native are the only believers in the end times either.

The joke; . . . only the two of us; and some times I’m not to sure about you., comes to mind.

It’s been a good year, and a bad year. But it has been a year and you will,  like me, not see it again.

Here’s to next year, and may it be a Happy New Year.

About tenwhiskey

User tenwhiskey is also the author of this blog. He currently lives in small town Kansas in a semi-retired condition. His kids are married and gone (thank you). An empty nester. Divorced. Very happy with life as it is. Ten Mile maintains a personal blog here, writing of events as they appear to him; commentary, and opinions abound. He deviates into fiction as the mood strikes and creates flash fiction stories and short stories. He will not warn the reader when he drifts from fact to fiction. He feels adults are, generally, smart enough to figure out which is which. He does, however, attempt to make his fiction sound as true to life as possible. You have been warned. He, as time permits, writes and occasionally sells writing. More often than not he gives it away to various non-paying publishers of Ether Magazines, forums or for entertainment on a wall for in need of a hand friends. He likes candy, pies and a certain amount of strife. In the matter of strife - in his yourth on the farm, he became embroiled in a slinging fight. The fight involved lath as a launcher, fresh cow patties as ammo and it was a six way free for all. A little mud only adds (Umm?) a certain taste to life.
